Minivan Driven 50 Feet Into Rugged Wearhouse Store

A minivan crashed into a Gaithersburg, Maryland, retail store Thursday, injuring two people entering the store with an infant.

The vehicle went 50-60 feet inside Rugged Wearhouse in the 200 block of Frederick Road just before 1 p.m., toppling and dragging racks of clothing and coming close to hitting a baby.

Witnesses indicate that the driver may have been pulling in to the disability parking space in front of the store before crashing into the building for an unknown reason, according to Pete Piringer of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue.

Customer Aryan Shirani told News4's Chris Gordon it sounded like a bomb.

The elderly driver was evaluated but didn't need any treatment.

The accident caused serious injuries to the woman who was not carrying the baby, but she is expected to survive. The other woman and the child were taken home in an ambulance.

One other person in the store has minor injuries.

The accident was caught on the store’s security camera.

The Montgomery County Police Department is investigating.
