Md. Cannibalism Suspect Admits Baseball Bat Attack

A man accused of cannibalism faces continued confinement after pleading guilty to a baseball bat attack that left his victim blinded.

Alexander Kinyua pleaded guilty but not criminally responsible Wednesday to attempted murder in Baltimore Circuit Court. The plea means he'll be confined to a mental health facility instead of prison.

A spokesman for the state's attorney's office says Kinyua's plea followed an evaluation of his mental health and that the office didn't challenge the plea.

The 22-year-old Kinyua, a U.S. citizen originally from Kenya, was indicted for a May attack at his Morgan State University apartment.

He faces separate charges in Harford County after telling investigators that he had killed a man who had been staying with his family and had eaten his heart and part of his brain.
