Man Killed in Fiery Crash in Maryland

A man was killed Wednesday morning when his SUV struck a tree and caught fire in Darnestown, Maryland. 

Police say the man was driving eastbound on Darnestown Road when he lost control and hit a tree at about 3 a.m. The car flipped onto its side, and at some point, became engulfed in flames. 

The driver died at the scene. No one else was inside the car. 

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Darestown Road is closed between Whites Ferry Road and Black Rock Road.
