Man In Custody in Alexandria Detention Center Dies After Medical Emergency

An inmate being held in an Alexandria detention center died Saturday night after experiencing a medical emergency, according to a release from the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office.

The release stated a 54-year-old man was in the medical unit of the William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center when the emergency occurred. He was transported to Inova Alexandria Hospital shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday.

The man, whose name is not being released pending notification of next of kin, was in custody on federal charges since March 4.

The release said the man died at the hospital around 11:30 p.m. Saturday. The Alexandria Police Department and the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office are conducting independent investigations.
