Lawmakers Work to Prevent Contraband from Entering Baltimore Jail

Members of a panel of lawmakers who are looking for ways to prevent contraband from getting into a Baltimore jail are taking a tour of the facility.

The special joint commission is scheduled to tour the Baltimore City Detention Center on Thursday.

Maryland Department of Corrections and Public Safety Secretary Gary Maynard is scheduled to give the lawmakers a briefing.

The secretary will discuss facility operations, a brief history of the facility infrastructure, detainee transportation and an overview of the detainee population.

In April, federal authorities announced indictments against 25 people, including 13 correctional officers, in a contraband corruption case.
