WASHINGTON -- Councilman Marion Barry turned 73 today, and it's going to be tough to top the gift he got from Howard University Hospital: his freedom.
On his way home, he was greeted with a surprise celebration.
D.C.'s former mayor received an even better gift two weeks ago. Longtime friend Kim Dickens gave him a kidney.
After being released from the hospital a week ago, he went back for tests Monday and was readmitted Tuesday after complaining of stomach pain. His new kidney is working fine, though.
