Maryland Teen Killed, Another Injured After Being Hit by Car on Christmas

Police say the teens were trying to cross Route 100 when a car hit them

One Maryland teenager was killed and another was hospitalized with serious injuries after they were struck by a car on Christmas Day.

Police say a Volkswagen was eastbound on state Route 100 when it hit two pedestrians trying to cross the major highway before 7:45 p.m..

The dead teenager was identified as Stephen Carlisle, a 17-year-old from Glen Burnie. A 15-year-old girl, also from Glen Burnie, was hospitalized at a local trauma center with serious injuries. Authorities have not disclosed her identity.

Investigators in Anne Arundel County say the preliminary cause of the deadly crash appears to be pedestrians unlawfully trying to dart across a controlled access highway.

The 30-year-old driver remained at the crash site. Police said there were no signs of excessive speed, drug or alcohol impairment.

The case will be reviewed by the state's attorney.
