Gas Prices Fall a Quarter in Past Month

If you are looking for a silver lining in all of the stories about unemployment, the struggling economy and a down housing market, you can find it at your local gas station.

According to the Lundberg Survey, gas prices are down 13 cents nationwide from two weeks ago, and down 25-cents in the past month.  AAA reported this morning that the national average is $3.39 a gallon.

In our area, prices are following that national trend. Prices in D.C. average $3.50 a gallon this morning, which is actually up two cents overnight, but still down 24-cents from a month ago. The average gallon of regular in Maryland will run you about $3.32, also down 25-cents from last month.

Virginia remains the cheapest place to fill up in our area at $3.25 a gallon, down from $3.50 a month ago. And West Virginia drivers are paying $3.42 a gallon, down 25-cents from last month.

The city with the lowest prices in country is Albuquerque, New Mexico where you can get a gallon of regular for $3.07.
