Burglar Steals 10-Year-Old Dog, Arwyn, From Greenbelt Apartment

Someone broke into a Greenbelt, Maryland apartment on Wednesday and stole a diamond ring, a laptop, a Kindle Fire -- and the owner's 10-year-old dog, Arwyn.

The dog's owner, Gabrielle Cowgill-Wilkins, is desperate to get her back. She describes Arwyn as "a gentle old gal." The two have been together since Arwyn, a boxer, was just six weeks old.

So when Cowgill-Wilkins got home Wednesday, and realized her apartment on Hanover Parkway in Greenbelt had been burglarized, her first thought was for Arwyn.

She believes if the boxer had just run out of the open door, or even been pushed out of the apartment by the burglar, she would have stayed close to home. But two days of searching have turned up no sign of her.

People at a dog park next to the complex, a place to which a loose dog might be drawn, say they have not seen her. Police believe Arwyn was taken by the burglar or burglars.

Nearly seven months pregnant and about to move to a larger apartment, Cowgill-Wilkins says she can't sleep, can't eat, and can't stop looking for her best friend and companion.

"She doesn't leave my side when I'm home," she said. "And she sleeps next to me on the bed, so she's curled up right next to me...."

Cowgill-Wilkins said the burglars can keep everything else they took -- all she wants is her dog.

Prince George's County Police said the break-in occurred in the 7000 block of Hanover Parkway in Greenbelt sometime between 10:45 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. Wednesday.

"Please help us find Arwyn and bring her back to her worried owner," said Prince George's County Police Department in a media release.

Police are asking anyone with information on the lost dog to call 301-390-2160 or 1-866-411-TIPS.
