D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has placed a friendly bet that the Washington Capitals will win their upcoming series in the Stanley Cup finals against the Vegas Golden Knights.
Bowser and Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman are each betting that their team will win.
A basket of local goodies is on the line. The losing mayor will also have to wear the winning team's jersey in a photo for social media.
"The Golden Knights have had an impressive first season, and we hope this series provides them the experience they need to bring home the Cup sometime in the future. However, this series will be #ALLCAPS, so on behalf of all Capitals fans: We want Vegas. Let’s go, Caps!" Bowser said.
The Capitals put a decade of playoff frustration behind them Wednesday night with a 4-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference final.
It's Washington's first Cup Final appearance since 1998.
Their first game in the best-of-seven game series will start at 8 p.m. Monday in Las Vegas.
