Prosecutors in a murder case involving an Arlington sheriff's deputy were ordered to turn over about a year's worth of police reports involving the victim during a hearing Monday.
Craig Patterson is charged in the shooting death of 22-year-old Julian Dawkins following an altercation in Alexandria in May.
During a 40-minute hearing Monday, the judge denied a bond review and ordered Patterson to continue to be held without bond, reported News4's Mark Segraves.
A member of Dawkins' family told Segraves that he's glad that Patterson remains in jail.
Authorities say that after the two men had an argument outside Dawkins' aunt's house, Patterson -- who was off-duty -- went home, returned to the scene with a gun, badge and handcuffs, and shot Dawkins in the chest.
Patterson then called 911 and remained on the scene.
The defense says Dawkins possessed drug paraphernalia and a large amount of cash the night he was killed. They say Patterson shot Dawkins in self-defense.

But a crime scene investigator said during Patterson's indictment that the only knife found on scene was inside Dawkins' pocket.
Prosecutors said Patterson's lawyers are painting the victim as acting aggressively toward Patterson.
They were ordered to turn over police records involving Dawkins from 2006 to 2012, including a charge of possession of marijuana that was later dropped.
On Monday, the judge scheduled Patterson's date to start Dec. 9. The trial is expected to take about a week.
Patterson was also indicted last month on one count of use of firearm. He faces a mandatory three years for the firearm charge and up to life in prison for the murder charge.
