Burglar Entered Bethesda Home With Key Stolen From Locker Room, Police Say

Using a house key pilfered from a gym's locker room, a man broke into a Bethesda home and made off with jewelry, police say.

A man using the facilities at the Kennedy Shriver Aquatic Center in Rockville on July 19 left his wallet and house keys in an unsecured area of the locker room, police say.

Someone snatched the personal items. Police responded about 3 p.m. to reports that the items were gone.

But the burglar didn't leave much time for his victim to react: Fifteen minutes later, the suspect was caught on surveillance camera entering the victim's apartment building on Westlake Drive in Bethesda.

Police say the suspect used the stolen house key to enter the apartment.

By 3:40 p.m., a family member returned to the victim's home and found several items, including jewelry, gone, police said.

Police reviewed footage from the aquatic center and spotted the suspect in the gym when the keys and wallet were stolen.
