Virginia Mother Faces Trial in Shooting Death of Daughters

The case against a mother accused of shooting and killing her daughters will go to trial.

Veronica Youngblood is accused of shooting her 15-year-old and 5-year-old daughters inside an apartment on the 1500 block of Lincoln Circle on Aug. 5. One girl died at the scene and another died at the hospital nearly a week later.

A Fairfax County judge ruled Friday there was enough evidence against Youngblood to move her murder case forward.

At the hearing, an investigator told the court Youngblood admitted to the killings last August. He said Youngblood admitted to giving the girls sleeping pills before she shot them.

The investigator said that Youngblood was planning to kill herself and the children for a while after years of a tense custody battle with her ex-husband.

Youngblood's defense attorneys argued she was mentally ill. The defendant previously refused to come to a court hearing in April and missed a previous hearing because of suicide attempts.
