The University of the District of Columbia has agreed to pay the U.S. government $530,000 to resolve allegations that the school submitted false claims for funding from a National Science Foundation grant.

Federal prosecutors announced the settlement Friday.

The grant was awarded to the university in 2004 to establish a science and technology program and to increase enrollment and graduation rates in those disciplines.

According to the U.S. Attorney's office, the university failed to maintain proper documentation about how it was spending the grant money from 2004 to 2009.

UDC did not admit guilt as part of the settlement. Prosecutors say the school will implement a four-year program to better track funds from the National Science Foundation.
