UDC Faculty Member to Ride Bike Across U.S.

A University of the District of Columbia faculty member is about to depart on a solo, cross-country bicycle journey to raise money for an environmental nonprofit.

Josh Lasky will set off on his more than 4,100-mile ride from Washington to Portland, Ore., on Tuesday. Before he departs, he'll speak to reporters at the Capitol reflecting pool on the National Mall.

Lasky is the assistant director for sustainability education at UDC. He's also a board member at Climate Ride, a nonprofit that hosts 300-mile bike rides to raise money for charity and awareness about climate change and sustainability issues.

Lasky plans to ride 60 to 70 miles a day and arrive in Portland the first week of September. He hopes to raise $10,000 for Climate Ride to fund the group's expansion.
