Ex-Employee Returns to Maggiano's With Gun

Police shoot gunman at restaurant

McLEAN, Va. -- A former employee of the Maggiano's at Tysons Corner Galleria mall was shot by police near the restaurant Saturday afternoon.

In the past few days, the man worked less than one shift at the restaurant and quit. He was not fired as was previously reported.

The man returned to the restaurant Saturday and reportedly was acting strange, police said. The manager met with the man and determined he needed security to escort the man to his car. Police were notified.

The man then went back to Maggiano's with a gun, police said. After refusing to obey police orders to drop his weapon, he was shot by police in the parking lot. The man was shot once in the lower body after making a movement toward the gun in his waistband, Fairfax County police Officer Shelly Broderick said.

He was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.
