Adelphi Man Transported to Hospital After Barricade

A man who barricaded himself an Adelphi apartment was transported from the building in an ambulance shortly before 6 a.m. Tuesday.

U.S. marshals were trying to serve 24-year-old Carlos Pierola a warrant for a domestic kidnapping from Saturday, Prince George's County police said. When he became aware of their presence at this home in the 1800 block of Grenwich Wood Drive about 10:20 p.m. Monday, he barricaded himself in an adjacent apartment. He was armed but had no hostages.

About 5:45 a.m., police entered after hearing sounds of distress. Pierola was attempting to kill himself, police said. Officers took life-saving measures, and Pierola was taken to a local hospital.

He is in critical condition.

Pierola allegedy took his estranged wife against her will Saturday and drove her around while trying to convince her to reconcile their differences, police said.
