Arlington Police Seek Bilingual Help From the Public

Arlington County police starting bilingual volunteer program

Police often ask the public for help to solve a crime. But this time, they aren’t asking about what you know, but what languages you speak.

Arlington County police are seeking volunteers who will join their new Bilingual Ride-a-Long Program. It allows citizen to join officers on patrol to assist with translating and investigations throughout the county.

Currently there is a need for a wide variety of languages including Spanish, French, Mongolian, Arabic and several African dialects. Police say those are the most prevalent languages in the county according to the latest census, and they want to be able to communicate with as many people as possible.

The good news is the program doesn’t require a lot of time. Arlington police ask for a commitment of only 10 hours a month. For more information, click here.
