Metro Unveils New Railcar Design

Metro incorporates public & employee ideas

Metro is showing off what its newest rail cars will look like.

Metro has 364 new cars on order and said they'll include improvements that came from input from passengers, employees and others.

The cars will be blue and gray -- colors preferred by passengers.

They'll have padded seats and seat-back grab handles.

There will be added handholds in the door area and vertical poles added at each seat.

No carpeting, just nonslip flooring.  And aisles will be wider

The cars will have two LCD route maps and four video screens to help riders easily track train locations.

The new cars will replace the oldest now being used and the new ones needed as rail expands to Dulles International Airport.

They'll face a months-long rigorous test once they start arriving in 2013.
