Police in Virginia are investigating a possible murder-suicide Monday morning.

A man reportedly entered a house looking for a woman, who owned the home out of which she ran a day care, and then gunshots were heard. Police went to the residence at 5612 Roundtree Drive in Dale City at about 7 a.m. to investigate the shooting and found 49-year-old Richard Anthony Nichols and 39-year-old Tonitha Marie White, of that Dale City address, dead.

Police said the man and the woman have some kind of relationship, but they would not say how the two knew each other.

Seven children and the homeowner's daughter were in the lower level of the home when the shooting occured, but they did not witness what happened, police said. The homeowner's daughter is the one who called the police after leading the other seven children into a basement bathroom.
