Local Airman Dies in Africa Military Crash

One of four casuatlies in plane crash

An Upper Marlboro man on active duty in Africa was killed in plane crash on February 18.

Senior Airman Julian S. Scholten, 26, was one of four killed when their U-28 aircraft went down.

Scholten, assigned to the 25th Intelligence Squadron, and three officers assigned to special operations units were on a mission in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Their aircraft crashed near Camp Lemonnier, in Djibouti.  The cause remains under investigation.
