Sen. Dodd Courageous Enough To Raise Cash

Off-topic, but can someone just fix the economy please?

Sen. Christopher Dodd of Connecticut is currently the most despised man in Washington, aside from everyone else.

Amid the current weekly scandal about ... let's see here ... $165 million in bonuses being given out by insurance company AIG, specifically the small unit in London dealing in credit default swaps -- you know, the one that almost singlehandedly destroyed the global economy -- America needs someone in Congress to blame.

And since Chris Dodd, chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, accepted $280,238 in campaign donations from AIG employees over the past 20 years, he will suffice.

Dodd admitted to CNN Wednesday that he "inserted a loophole in the stimulus legislation that allowed million-dollar bonuses to insurance giant AIG to go forward -- after previously denying any involvement in writing the controversial provision." Granted he inserted that "loophole" as a compromise with the Obama administration to his much more stringent amendment against executive compensation in the stimulus bill, but hey, we're quoting Politico here.

Anyway, the Examiner reports that Dodd is holding a fancy fundraiser in D.C. next week for his 2010 Senate re-election bid. It comes at a very embarrassing time, and from Heather Podesta, wife of lobbyist Tony Podesta. You're all invited!

Dear Friends,

Please join us on Wednesday, March 25th for an evening with Senator Chris Dodd. The Senator is Chairman of the Banking, Housing, & Urban Affairs Committee and serves on the HELP, Foreign Relations, and Rules committees. Let's help to reelect this five-term incumbent Senator from Connecticut…

The suggested contribution for "Host" is $5,000, "PAC Supporter" is $2,500, and "Individual Supporter" is $1,000. Please make checks payable to "Friends of Chris Dodd."

Please feel free to forward this invitation to others that might be interested in attending or contributing.

Best,

Heather
