D.C. Dentist Sentenced to 16 Years in Prison for Sexually Assaulting Patients, Employee

Dentist assaulted men while they were sedated

A former dentist was sentenced to 16-and-a-half years in prison for sexually assaulting five patients and an employee and improperly touching another employee.

Bilal Ahmed, 45, pleaded guilty to five felony charges in D.C. Superior Court in May -- one count of first-degree sexual abuse of a patient and four counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a patient. He also pleaded guilty to three misdemeanors -- two counts of sexual abuse and one count of simple assault.

The victims, all men, were assaulted from 2010 to 2014.

Ahmed would take patients into a procedure room at Universal Smiles DC in the 2300 block of M Street NW, close the door, give the patients nitrous oxide to sedate them, then sexually assault them, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Ahmed, of Rockville, Maryland, owned the practice, which is now closed.

“Bilal Ahmed used his dental practice and his position of authority to sexually abuse vulnerable victims, some of whom were his own patients and staff,” U.S. Attorney Jessie K. Liu said. “His victims included people who came to him for treatment and employment, caught off guard by his outrageous conduct. Today’s sentence holds him accountable for this criminal breach of trust.”

Ahmed will be on three years of supervised release after his prison sentence and will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
