Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) announced Sunday that the utility was dispatching approximately 70 overhead linemen to help restore power to areas of Prince George's County affected by Friday's severe storms.

As of Sunday morning, PEPCO's website reported that just under 3,500 customers were still without power in the District and Prince George's County.

The bulk of the outages in Prince George's County were concentrated in Hyattsville and Bladensburg, where dozens of people were displaced and buildings damaged by a severe storm cell, which produced a microburst.

“BGE is part of a mutual assistance network of utilities and stands ready to assist our colleagues when our service is requested,” Stephen J. Woerner, the senior vice president and chief operating officer of BGE, said in a statement.

“We understand the importance of mutual assistance, and as such, have both released our crews to help utilities near and far, as well as received assistance. When utility companies work together, the added resources make it possible to safely restore power in a much more efficient and expedient way than the local company can manage alone. We are pleased to assist our colleagues to the south of our service network as they work to complete their restoration effort.”
