3 Dead in Apparent Head-On Crash in Maryland

Three people were killed in a crash Sunday night in La Plata, Maryland, Charles County Fire officials said.

The victims were pronounced dead at the scene at Hawthorne Road and Ripley Way. Authorities believe the cars crashed head-on.

Police were called to the scene shortly before 8 p.m.

On Monday morning, Maryland State Police identified the victims as Patrick Bowie, Jr., 44, of La Plata; Tineka Palmer, 35, of Indian Head, Maryland, and Tyron Carroll, 33, also of Indian Head.

State police said Bowie was the driver and only occupant of a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica. They said Palmer was the driver of a 2014 Chevrolet Impala, and Carroll was her passenger.

Due to the severity of the crash, Maryland State Police is handling the investigation. Anyone who may have seen the crash is asked to call police at 301-392-1231.

The area of Route 225/Hawthorne Road at Ripley Way was closed for several hours after the crash and reopened shortly before midnight.
