5-Year-Old Shoots 4-Year-Old on Playground: Police



    Neighborhood Reacts to Shooting of 4-Year-Old by 5-Year-Old

    Investigators and stunned neighbors are trying to process just how a 5-year-old was able to get hold of a handgun in Temple Hills, Md., and shoot a 4-year-old playmate at close range. (Published Friday, July 1, 2011)

    A 4-year-old child was shot in the back by another child in Temple Hills, Md., Thursday.

    The 4-year-old was playing at a playground in the 4400 block of 23rd Parkway. A 5-year-old somehow obtained a gun. It went off, hitting the 4-year-old in the upper back and shoulder area, police said.

    The 5-year-old ran into an apartment building, where police found the gun.

    "We're trying to figure out how a 5-year-old had a gun," Prince George's County police Cpl. Mike Rodriguez said.
