RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The Latest on Virginia primary races for governor and other offices (all times local):
7 p.m.
Polls have closed in Virginia’s closely watched primary contests for governor that could be an early referendum on President Donald Trump.
The Democratic primary contest has been a hard fought battle between Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam, the state party establishment’s favorite, and insurgent candidate Tom Perriello. Both candidates have pledged fierce opposition to Trump and his policies.
On the Republican side, frontrunner Ed Gillespie, a moderate Washington insider, is trying to fend off under-funded but spirited campaigns from avid Trump supporter Corey Stewart and state Sen. Frank Wagner.
Voters are also choosing candidates for lieutenant governor and several state House seats.
Virginia’s gubernatorial contest has received widespread national attention as the swing state is one of only two states electing new governors this year.
Anyone in line when the polls close at 7 p.m. will still be able to vote.

A chemical spill at a Virginia school has forced voting in the state’s gubernatorial primary to move outside to a parking lot.
WJLA-TV reports (http://bit.ly/2sl6RtJ) that the Prince William Fire Department says the chemical spilled Tuesday afternoon in the building was “nothing exotic” and no injuries were reported.
Authorities say Lake Ridge Middle School in Woodbridge was evacuated. Elections officials say poll workers are taking provisional ballots in the parking lot.
The Prince William Board of Elections says it has sent mobile polling station to the school to take votes.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe has cast his ballot in Virginia’s primary.
The Democratic governor tweeted that he and his wife, Dorothy, voted Tuesday morning. He says they voted for Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam in the Democratic gubernatorial primary. McAuliffe can’t run for a second consecutive term under Virginia law.

Voters head to the polls Tuesday in Virginia’s primary contests for governor, with the white hot Democratic contest coming down to a choice between heads and hearts.
Former congressman Tom Perriello is making the more emotional pitch, saying he’ll be a liberal crusader who will stand up both to President Donald Trump and the entrenched business interest that dominate state politics. Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam is banking on a cerebral appeal, saying he’ll also stand up to Trump but will work with state Republicans to move a progressive agenda forward.
