Police ID Suspect in Stabbing of Pregnant Woman

WASHINGTON — A suspect in the stabbing of a 19-year-old pregnant woman in Kensington is due in court Thursday afternoon.

Dakota Brothers, 18, of Aspen Hill, was arrested Wednesday, Aug. 31 in the stabbing. On Thursday, the police said he has been charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of first-degree assault. He’s being held without bond and will appear in Rockville District Court at 1 p.m. Thursday for a bond review.

The police say Brothers and the woman were in a relationship, though they don’t know yet whether he is the father of her baby, when he allegedly stabbed her at about 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, on Upton Drive, in Kensington. He was arrested after a brief struggle near Palmira Lane and Dauphine Street at about 4 p.m.

Police say the woman identified and described Brothers to the police. On Wednesday, they said she had serious injuries but was expected to be OK; on Thursday, they said she’s still in critical condition at a hospital.
