Police: 2 Dead in Apparent Murder-suicide in Allegany County

CORRIGANVILLE, Md. (AP) — Maryland State Police say a Frostburg city worker and his girlfriend were found dead at their Allegany County home.

Police said in a statement late Tuesday that they are they are investigating the apparent murder-suicide and identified the two people found dead as 46-year-old Mary Preston and 39-year-old George Whetstone.

Police say Frostburg police asked state police to check on Whetstone’s welfare after he didn’t report to work on Tuesday. State police say troopers found the Whetstone and Preston dead in an upstairs bedroom. Police say evidence indicates Whetstone shot Preston, then turned the gun on himself.

Police say autopsies will be conducted to confirm the cause and manner of their deaths. Police say they are investigating a motive, but preliminary information indicates domestic issues may have been involved.
