A skateboarding teen’s plan to get a free ride around the District by latching on to the back of a fire truck didn’t quite go as planned.

Fire crews were called to the scene of a small kitchen fire in northwest Washington Thursday night. As they were leaving, a 14-year-old on a skateboard grabbed onto the hook-and-ladder truck hoping to be pulled. But instead of creating a new X Games sport, the teen fell and the truck ended up running over his foot.

The teen was taken to a local hospital. He’s expected to recover.

His skater cred, however, might not.
