Classic Andy Roddick in action. The No. 1 seed returns to the Legg Mason Tennis Classic, his first appearance since losing the Wimbledon final to Roger Federer.
If you're not already at the annual Legg Mason tennis tournament, don't bother heading that way for now.
Play at the summer classic has been suspended due to the Flash Flood Watch in effect for much of the Washington, D.C. area.
No word on whether that includes play at Family Day at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center (16th and Kennedy Streets, NW) has also been postponed/cancelled, but it's likely the inflatable slides and playlands for kids and adults won't be coming out.
Sunday was to be the first day of main draw matches at the tournament, which began Saturday, August 1 and runs through Sunday, August 9 at the the FitzGerald Tennis Center in Rock Creek Park.
This year’s tournament brings back No. 1 seed Andy Roddick and No. 2 seed Juan Martin del Potro as well as one of the strongest player fields in the classic’s 41-year history, per the Washington Examiner. The other top players include Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, James Blake, Fernando Gonzalez, Robin Soderling, Marin Cilic, Gael Monfils, and Lleyton Hewitt.
Roddick will be making his first appearance on the court since losing to Roger Federer in the Wimbledon final last month.
The Legg Mason tournament benefits the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation.
Visitors and attendees to the tournament are being advised of major parking restrictions from August 1 - August 9 in the surrounding residential neighborhoods.
The "Emergency No Parking" zone includes these locations:
Alternative transportation such as biking, walking or transit (Metro bus S2, S4, or S9 will drop people off at 16th and Kennedy streets directly at the stadium) is encouraged.
