A woman is dead after threatening police officers with a knife in an apartment building in Bladensburg.

Police say that a resident of the building, in the 4200 block of 53rd Avenue in Bladensburg, called 911 at 10:30 p.m. Friday because a woman was brandishing a knife in the halls of the building.

After officers arrived at the building and confronted the woman, identified as 43-year-old Tonya Michelle Buggs, she lunged at them with the knife. Three officers then shot her and she was taken to Prince George's Hospital Center.

Buggs was pronounced dead at 11:15 p.m. None of the officers were injured. The Prince George's County Police Department is currently investigating. The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave.
