Authorities say a 44-year-old man who escaped while on work release has been apprehended in the D.C. area.
Karan Batra escaped at about 10 a.m. Wednesday, Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said. He was a member of a work release crew landscaping the Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport's grounds.
Officials said he was apprehended just before 7 p.m. Wednesday with the help of U.S. Marshals, State Police, Augusta County Sheriff's Office and the Virginia Department of Corrections.
Geller said Batra has connections to the Alexandria area.
She said Batra's convictions are for non-violent crimes and he wasn't considered dangerous.
