Tractor-Trailer Strikes Man Crossing Highway on Riding Mower

Man hospitalized in serious condition

A man who tried to cross a highway on his riding mower was hit by a tractor-trailer, Maryland State Police said.

George Hummer, 57, of Chestertown, was driving his mower about 6:30 a.m. Monday when he tried to cross Md. 290 just north of the Md. 544 intersection and was hit by a tractor-trailer driven by 55-year-old John Short Jr., of Millington, troopers said.

Hummer was flown the Shock Trauma in Baltimore with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, WBOC-TV reported. Short was not injured.

The accident is under investigation.
