The commonweath is not messing around when it comes to forcing people to wear their seatbelts.

Today, the Virginia Senate agreed to the House's version of a bill to require anyone under 18 to wear a seat belt in a vehicle. Anyone riding in the front seat already must wear a seat belt. Now, if you're under 18, even if you're in the back seat, you must buckle up.

There is one exemption, if you are riding in the back seat of taxicab, you don't have to wear one.

If you don't follow the law, if will cost you. Police officers can issue a $25 citation if drivers are stopped for another reason.

Bills to make seatbelt violations a primary ofefnse typically fail before the legislature.

The bill now goes to Gov. Bob McDonnell's desk. He can sign it, amend it or veto it.
