Transportation officials in metropolitan Washington, D.C. have launched a safety campaign urging drivers and bicyclists to be on the lookout for each other.
Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker says more residents will be spending time walking and biking outdoors now that it's warming up. He says enforcement is being stepped up throughout the region to make sure everyone makes an effort to be aware of each other.
Officers in the area will be on the lookout for drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists who break traffic safety laws. They'll face tickets and fines for violations.
The campaign began this week and runs through April 19.
A news release about the safety campaign says 75 pedestrians and bicyclists died in traffic crashes in the Washington area last year.
