Protest of Bronze Statue Draws NAACP to Leesburg

Confederate Soldier Statue at Center of Controversy

A rally in Leesburg to protest a symbol of the Confederacy occurred Saturday morning.

The NAACP said they aren't asking for the removal of a bronze statue on the courthouse grounds in downtown Leesburg. The statue is a Confederate soldier with a bronze rifle.

However, they said they wanted a Union memorial added to the courthouse grounds.

Confederate flag supporters also held a rally. One supporter said he approves of adding a Union memorial.
