Fairfax police are investigating the death of a man who was found late Saturday in a road.

Officers were called to the area of Backlick Road and Highland Street for reports of a man lying in the road. When they arrived, they discovered a 24-year-old man with an upper body injury.

The man was transported to the hospital where he later died. The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Investigators said the injury sustained by the man was not consistent with him being struck by a vehicle, but would not release any further details.
