Man Fatally Shot on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE

A 22-year-old man died after he was shot Wednesday afternoon on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Southeast D.C., police said.

Demetrius Christopher Medlay was shot about 2:50 p.m. on the 3100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, D.C. police said. 

Witnesses said they heard three to four shots and then saw Medlay collapse near Hong Kong Restaurant. He was taken with gunshot wounds to a hospital, where he died, police said.

Medlay's death is being investigated as a homicide. 

Sixteen people have died of homicide in D.C. thus far in 2016, which is on par with the homicide count by the same date last year, D.C. crime statistics show.

The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a reward of as much as $25,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in any homicide in D.C. Anyone with information is asked to call 202-727-9099 or send a text message to 50411.
