The Department of Transportation is launching a new online tool that will help drivers determine whether their vehicle is being recalled.
All you have to do is enter you vehicle identification number (VIN) on www.safercar.gov. The agency says all "major light vehicle and motorcycle brands" can be searched.
You can find your VIN by looking on the dashboard on the driver's side of the vehicle or on the driver's side door where the door latches when it's closed.
"By making individual VIN searches readily available, we’re providing another service to consumers – the peace of mind knowing that the vehicle they own, or that they are thinking of buying or renting, is free of safety defects," said NHTSA Deputy Administrator David Friedman.
