One man is dead in Montgomery County after he lost control of his truck and slammed into a tree.

Police say 49-year-old Jose Ayala was spotted driving erratically around 1 a.m. on Laytonsville Road just outside of Laytonsville. Officers responded, but before they could stop Ayala, his truck left the road and slammed into a tree. He died on the scene.

Family members tell police Ayala hadn’t been seen since about 6 p.m. Saturday, when he left to buy groceries. They say he was also diabetic and insulin dependent.

Laytonsville Road was closed for several hours, but has since reopened. Police are still trying to determine the exact cause of the accident.
