An off-duty federal police officer has been involved in a fatal shooting in Prince George's County.
News4 has confirmed that the officer shot and killed a man at a Mobil gas station in the 9800 block of Piscataway Road in Clinton, Md.
Prince George's police said that the officer witnessed a violent struggle between two people at the gas station at about 1:30 p.m. and that one of the people pulled out a handgun. When the officer identified himself as police, the man with the weapon turned toward him, police said. The officer then shot the man in the upper body, according to officials.
The man who was shot was transported to a local hospital and was pronounced dead. The other man involved in the initial struggle was transported to a hospital in an unknown condition. The officer stayed at the scene and was not injured.
There was no immediate word on what caused the initial struggle between the two people at the gas station.
The gas station reopened for business before 6 p.m.
