‘Perfect Little Love': News4's Melissa Mollet Shares Her Story of Adoption

Saturday is National Adoption Day, and hundreds of children across the country will take part in ceremonies as they become part of their "forever families." News4's Melissa Mollet shares her story of adoption.

---

After years of losses and fertility treatments, tears and sleepless nights, our family started thinking about adopting.

We wanted another child – a sibling for our son – and were open to any race, a boy or a girl, an older child in foster care or an infant.

What ended up in our arms was our perfect little love.

This is one of my favorite days of the year. In fact, I took our son to a National Adoption Day ceremony in Montgomery County, Maryland, last year to introduce him to the idea of adding to our family through adoption.

I didn't know that less than a year later we’d be holding our daughter.

I’m so happy to share our journey with you. And I hope that our story inspires someone else to take the (albeit anxiety-producing) step toward adoption.

I can’t believe how lucky we are that we get to call this little girl our daughter.
