Mom of Missing Toddlers Again Deemed Incompetent to Stand Trial

The Maryland woman police believe is responsible for the deaths of her two young children after they disappeared two years ago has once again been found unfit to stand trial.

Catherine Hoggle appeared Tuesday morning at a competency hearing, where District Court Judge Holly Reed announced that mental health professionals found that Hoggle continues to be "not competent" for trial. She is a danger to herself and others, the judge said.

Hoggle's attorney did not object, according to the Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office.

Hoggle, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, was charged with misdemeanor child neglect, abduction and hindering law enforcement in connection with the September 2014 disappearance of 3-year-old Sarah Hoggle and 2-year-old Jacob Hoggle.

Catherine Hoggle, who had been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia before the children went missing, is believed to be the last person seen with them.

She told authorities she left her little boy and little girl with a friend but has never given details on their whereabouts.

Montgomery County Police have said they believe Sarah and Jacob are dead.

Catherine Hoggle will continue to be held without bond. She is due to appear in court again December 12.
