Some Metro riders can now add money to their SmarTrip cards from their own computers.
Metro launched a pilot program to test out a new system, The Washington Post reported.
The program allows users to add money online using a credit card instead of having to go to a machine.
Metro randomly selected about 5,000 riders for the four-week program.
Metro plans to replace the SmarTrip technology at some point.
