A 26-year-old man was fatally shot Tuesday night in Oxon Hill, Maryland.

The victim has been identified as Shahim Body.

Officers were called to the 5200 block of Leverett Street about 8:40 p.m. for a report of a shooting, Prince George's County Police said. When they arrived, they found Body with wounds suffered in a barrage of gunfire.

He was taken to the hospital, where he died hours later.

Police said Body was an Oxon Hill resident who lived on Livingston Road.

They do not know if Body was the intended target.

Police are working to identify a suspect and motive in the case. No arrests have been made at this time, police said Wednesday afternoon.

Body got a full music scholarship to Hampton University, where he became a section band leader. After earning his music education degree he returned to Oxon Hill High School and volunteered every day with the marching band. He wanted to be a professional drummer.

A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
