An Alexandria man has been charged in the burglary of an 82-year-old woman's home, according to Fairfax County police.

Police said they arrested 45-year-old Bernell Gripper after tests matched his DNA with evidence found at the scene. Gripper has been charged with abduction, robbery, burglary and disabling a telephone line to prevent help.

The burglary occurred about 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 19 in a home on Russell Road in Alexandria, authorities said. The man smashed a bedroom window, entered the home and forced the woman into another room, police said. He demanded money, disabled the home telephone and took the woman's cellphone and car keys.

Police said he fled in the victim's car.
