A 29-year-old man was killed in southeast D.C. Friday afternoon, and his death has police concerned about a possible trend.

The landscaper was mowing grass in the 4600 block of Hillside Drive when he was shot.

It was the second shooting of a Latino contractor in the area in about a week. The victim has been identified as Manuel D. Sanchez of Capital Heights, Md.

A D.C. contractor is shot and killed just blocks away from where another contractor was shot one week earlier.

Last week, two contractors were painting when they were approached and fired upon. One of the contractors was critically injured.

Police do not believe the crimes are related but are concerned they may signal a trend of violent crimes against Latino workers. They believe both shooting victims were targeted for robbery.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099, or call D.C. Crime Solvers with an anonymous tip at 1-866-411-TIPS.
