Police in Richmond, Va. are searching for suspects who stole a United States flag from a Virginia war memorial.

Richmong Capitol Police say the theft happened between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Sunday. Memorial staffers believe it took several people to cut the rope holding the flag to the flag pole.

Police watched surveillance video from the site, but the camera was turned away from the flags at the time of the thefts.

A former soldier has already donated a new flag and helped put it up on Monday.
