Five Injured, Including Two Kids, in Clinton House Fire

Prince George's County fire officials say a firefighter rescued two children from a burning home in Clinton.

Assistant Fire Chief Alan Doubleday says a 13-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl were trapped in a bedroom in the home on Small Drive early Sunday. He says the boy called 911 and told a dispatcher the hallway was too hot for them to escape.

At one point during the call, the boy's sister can be heard saying, "We're going to die."

"Please, don't say that," the boy replied.

The 911 dispatcher kept the two calm while the boy helped direct a rescuer to the room. As a firefighter handed the boy out a window, he felt a tug from the boy's sister on his leg. He gave her his gas mask.

Smoke detectors in the home may not have been working; the family was apparently alerted to the fire by their dog.

Fire officials say the fire appears to have originated near a computer desk. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
